The function of battery separator is to prevent short circuit caused by contact between positive plate and negative plate and ensure normal chemical reaction of plate. Therefore, the special PE separator of storage battery should have higher porosity, ensure ion conduction electric energy, and have less impurities, good acid resistance, high mechanical strength and other conditions. The special separator of rubber batteries can also prevent antimony ions dissolved from the positive grid alloy from migrating to the surface of the negative plate, thus reducing the self-discharge of the batteries. Battery cell is made of hard rubber or plastic material with acid resistance, good insulation and high mechanical strength. It is a container containing plate, separator and electrolyte. Its volume determines the capacity of battery under certain conditions. The function of dilute sulfuric acid electrolyte is to conduct conduction between ions through electrochemical reaction during the conversion process of electric energy and chemical energy, i.e. charging and discharging, and to participate in the chemical reaction of batteries.
With the continuous innovation of battery technology and the maturity of PE partition forming technology, UHMWPE partition has become the mainstream partition. PE partition was first developed and invented by Grace Company in the United States. Because PE partition has the advantages of low resistance, good toughness, not easy to wear, oxidation resistance, corrosion resistance, small pore size, and can be sealed, it has been widely used in the world and has become a substitute for other traditional partitions. At present, in Europe, America and Australia, almost 100% of automotive batteries are manufactured with PE separators. Since the early 1990s, China has been using PE separators for more than ten years. At present, PE separators in China have been recognized by most battery manufacturers and have begun to be widely used. PE separators have been used in all or part of the starter batteries produced by some large domestic factories. However, in the production of PE separator, due to the difficulties in the production and processing of UHMWPE, and the core production technology has been in the hands of large European and American factories, so the domestic has been in a blank state. Until 1996, with the successful introduction of PE partition production technology in China, the mysterious veil of PE partition was unveiled and the breakthrough of zero PE partition production in China was realized.
